Ravi Kiran Ayyagari was born and brought up in Jamshedpur, a small industrial town in Eastern India. To pursue his higher education he traveled to the capital, Delhi – where besides his studies towards a Bachelors Degree, he also discovered Theater and Photography. 

In 2006, Ravi Kiran enrolled into the Film and Television Institute of India (Pune), with a specialisation in Cinematography. 

Ravi Kiran, recently shot 'Jal Tu Jalaal Tu', a short film shot on Iphone for MAMI Select, is on You Tube.

Ravi Kiran's  first independent feature as a cinematographer was ‘Lajwanti’ which premiered at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival in the Forum section. His second feature film, titled ‘Ashwatthama’, premiered at the 22nd Busan International Film Festival. His feature documentary film, titled 'Maru ro Moti - Pearl of the Desert', premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in 2019. His first mainstream feature 'Aadhaar' had its world premiere at 24th Busan International Film Festival and India Premiere at the 21st Mumbai Film Festival. He shot 'Lata' a thesis film for Calarts, the film was nominated for the Short film grand Jury at the Sundance Film Festival 2021. He shot 'The Scavenger of Dreams' which premiered in 24th Busan International Film Festival and India Premiere at the Mumbai Film Festival 2023.

Ravi Kiran has also shot couple of Netflix TV series 'Mai' and 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack.'

Ravi Kiran has shot commercials for brands like Tata Tiscon, Tata Pravesh, Cadbury Fuse, ICICI Bank, Asian Paints, Star Cement, GSK Horlicks, Central, Big bazaar, Emami, Dettol, Daily Hunt, Oziva and Nestle.

Currently, Ravi Kiran is  based in Mumbai, and works as a freelance cinematographer in fiction, documentaries as well as commercials. He also collaborates with artists on art video / installations.
